Literature Review: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - Getting Closer to God's Voice 1985

Will a witty and independent-minded woman succumb to the social pressure and marry for the sake of survival? Is it something to be blamed for rejecting marriage in the 18th England? What will happen to those who ignore social prejudice and live on their own terms? Will they be excluded from the group? Will the excluded mentally bullied by social prejudice? Isn’t social prejudice a common form of violence and bullying? 

 

Have you encountered any snobs in your life so far? Do you link self-worth to how much you earn on a daily basis? Do you consider your social status as you choose your future career? Does everyone gossip? Does everyone judge others in their own ways? 

 

Pride and prejudice go hand in hand.  We can’t be easily satisfied and grateful for what we have. Are we trapped by desire and greed? Life is about making choices and it’s never easy especially if we want too much from life.

Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is said to be a satirical and social critique on the marriage market.  and pervasive social prejudice during the eighteenth century.

 

Most people do not aware of the fact that pride is the capital sin among the 7 deadly sins. God has a high moral standard for us, especially for the chosen ones. Heaven is not the place for wickedness, desire, anger, greed, jealousy and lust. 

Was it a commonplace thing for 18th-century women to marry for the sake of social standing?  The strength and violence of social pressure and social prejudice are the common causes of ultimate tragedies on earth. 

 

Bottom Line

Pride and prejudice cloud our bility to make righteous correct big decisions in life. In the novel,  Mr. Darcy becomes humbler for the sake of love that he ultimately disregards social standing and proposes to the one he truly in love with.
