The script of the Japanese drama Asunaro Hakusho ( “Asunaro White Paper”) is based on a manga series created by Fumi Saimon. The manga series won the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1992.
Synopsis
Much like the TV series “Friends,” the story line revolves around the five young university students’s entangled love relationships and friendship. Tamotsu and Osamu (Kimura) both fall in love with Narumi. Narumi is in love with Tamotsu but Tamotsu is having another relationship long before he meets her. Tamotsu loves Narumi more than his girlfriend but he tries hard to be faithful. Aside from this, it’s no way for Tamotsu to end his first relationship out of responsibility and gratitude for what she had done for him. That’s why everyone suffers. An unexpected accident lead to the death of Junichiro. After years of separation, they encounter each other again. Will they be honest to their affection? Will life gets better this time? Is she still in love with Tamotsu?

The series was adapted as a television drama and aired in Japan from in 1993 on Fuji TV. The overall viewer rating reaches 31.9%, making it one of the most popular television dramas in the 1990s.
