The Clear-Cut Answer to Why Good People Suffer - Getting Closer to God's Voice 1985

God knows the motives of our prayers. If we ask anything according to Gods will, God will respond. (John 5: 14, ESV) You ask and not receive, because you ask with wrong motives (James 4: 3). “[Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:24)

Why Bad Things Happen to Good People?

According to the Bible, a blessed life is not an easy life without any challenges. As to the occurrence of an unexpected traumatic event, would you identify it a life challenge or life trouble or would you question God’s justice? Countless people feel they are badly rewarded by God. Most people stigmatize their life troubles because they know nothing about “God’s discipline” (Hebrews 12:11). According to the Bible, God only disciplines those He loves. In a sense, we betray God’s love and benevolence if we stigmatize life challenges.

What about the great figures in history? What about the life of Mater Teresia, Princess Diana, Queen Elizabeth II, or Albert Einstein? Evidently, God does not tend to make anyone’s life perfect. It’s just some people hide their tears from you.

There are too many temptations. It’s never easy to live a life fully abide by the creeds laid out in the Bible. we might commit sins that we do not even aware of, such as anger, pride, gluttony and apathy. Significantly, pride is recognized as a capital sin in the Bible. Generally, pride and social prejudice go hand in hand. As to those who love to gossip others, be aware of your words.

Without God’s discipline, we might be allured by unduly desires, excessive greed or lust. The positive value of hard times is assured, because we only have the chance to witness unconditional love and God’s miracles in the tough times. And sufferings teach us to be truly humble and compassionate to others’ pain.

In Hebrews 13:5, it says “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have.” Material enjoyment are common temptations. According to the Bible, “The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs” (1 Timothy 6:10:). That fully explains why the Bible says, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God” (NRSV, Mark 10:23-27).

#God’s Discipline
God discipline those who commit forgivable sins. We are so easily be beguiled by false beliefs and make bad decisions. The fact is most people have great chance to commit the 7 deadly sins ranged from pride, envy, anger, binge eating, lust, laziness/apathy and greed. People are good at making lame excuses running away from responsibilities, including myself. The scientific fact is that the more we run away from our responsibilities, the more pressure we will suffer.

History repeats. Similar events repeat itself until we learn the lesson and overcame our unalterable weakness. It totally changes the way how I deal with bad news. As something troublesome happens, tell yourself “IT’S THE TEST. STAY CALM AND STICK TO GOODWILL. A TENDER HEART WILL HELP YOU PASS THE COURSE.” God is watching over us above the sky and evaluating our performance and reactions to disturbing life experiences.

God is righteous and fair. The more benevolence we are, the more luck we will receive from God. For sure, God promise blessings to the righteous men in due times.

Time for self-Reflection
Do we remain righteous and benevolent in the hard times? According to Bible, God gives hardship to the righteous men for the sake of discipline, much like parent’s love to their kids. Admit it, there are times we fail to discipline ourselves well by wasting our time, energy on something foolish, meaningless or insignificant.

To God, habitual laziness is not permitted, and “temperance” is necessary. Also, apathy is one of the 7 deadly sins. According to the Bible, laziness will lead to huger and poverty.

***

According to the Bible, those God love will encounter “tribulations, “including “the righteous” (John 16:33; Psalm 34:18-19 ESV). The Bible says, “Blessed is the one whom God corrects” and there will be rewards of God’s discipline (Job 5:17).

As to “God discipline,” God will “lead” those He loves “in paths of righteousness” in the role of a “shepherd” (Psalm 23:1-6 ESV) and lead those He loves away from the “temptations” of the 7 deadly sins (Matthew 6:13). The Bible says, “You must trust the Lord and not your own judgment. Always let Him lead you, and He will clear the road for you to follow.” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

God’s discipline is rife with love and benevolence. Chances are, when we are surrounded by blessings, we get numb to it and we take everything for granted. We get depressed because we always desire more or focus on the imperfections in life. We suffer because we trap ourselves by unfulfilled desire or unalterable past decisions. We trap ourselves because of something irreversible or insignificant. By doing so, we fail to comprehend God’s mercy a nd grace and we fail to fulfill our duties to God. By doing so, we fall short of God’s glory for days, weeks, or even years.

Any benevolent acts from people around us might be God’s responses to our prayers. Do not seek answers from fortune-tellers. Pray and seek answers from God. During the hard times in life, we earn the chance to reflect our mistakes and purify our soul. So, we might become “a better person.” Chances are, God has a better plan for us or God tends to correct our unshakable character weakness.

The difference between God’s discipline and God’s punishment is conspicuous. Biblical passages give us the answers. “For the moment all discipline seems painful [..] but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it” (Hebrews 12:11).

God will correct those He loves and test “genuineness” of their faith (1 Peter 1:3-9 ESV). Do we remain righteous in the hard times? In the Bible, it says: Do not go for “self-seeking,” and do not “easily angered.” God tests our faith repeatedly and only the righteous ones will be chosen to live in the Heaven. God equates discipline with love, much like parents educating their kids.

God has his will clear in the Bible. The importance of “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” is being highly valued in the Bible (Galatians 5:22-23)

Most people have tight schedules all year round. They suffer from sleep deprivation for years or decades. They are mentally and physically exhausted and still they don’t time for Bible-reading. What keeps people so busy? All they wanted is to be valued, envied and respected as one of the “successful people” in the social gatherings. They are desperate to pursue early career success or wealth accumulation.

Countless people reject to practice the 7 heavenly virtues before their death. The sad fact is that most people wind up in hell. In the Bible, it says “Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13–14).

Bottom Line
God’s compels us to do the right things and right decisions. If we practice the 7 heavenly virtues, we will be amazed that God injects energy and strength into our body and soul. When a life challenge comes, focus on God’s good intention to lead us to a better life or to become a better person.

When our life track differs from our original plan, don’t be scared. God’s discipline and God’s love are intertwined, which fully explains the strong connection between God’s discipline, God’s blessing and post-traumatic growth.

Life is about passing the courses one after another. Self-discipline and goodwill are the antidotes to help us pass the courses from God. The sufferings will be over as we pass the course from God and we have chance to transform ourselves into better persons, mentally and physically. History repeats if we fail to pass the course from God.

Evidently, those who are able to give the traumatic events a positive meaning and rationalize the occurrence of traumatic events in life are more likely to survive over it and secure post-traumatic growth.

For the real stories I heard, trials and life troubles accelerate dramatic personal growth and self-awakening. For instance, as a person is pushed to the very brink of death, he earns the chance to figure out what really matters in life. Thus, trials can be great reminders to prevent us from making huge regrets. Also, we have a higher chance to witness God’s mighty power and unconditional love in the hard times.

Disappointments and frustrations in life test our faith. It’s significant to remain righteous in the hard times. Again, we should not identify life challenges as God’s punishment if we don’t deserve it. Stick to goodwill and positive thinking and there will be blessings and compensations.

By keeping goodwill and practicing the 7 heavenly virtues in the hard times, we will earn a higher chance to witness the miracles from God, such as the spontaneous regression of the tumors.

Disabilities: What does the Bible say?

1. John 9:2-4

“Why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?” “It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.

2. Exodus 4:10-12

Moses pleaded with the Lord, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.” Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.”

Time for Self-Reflection
Do we disappoint God repeatedly? Do we waste our talents and seek fame and wealth in the capitalist society? Do we ignore the 7 heavenly virtues dictated in the Bible?

In Proverbs 25:27, it says it is not “glorious to seek one’s own glory.” In the Bible, it says “the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith” (1 Timothy 6:10).

In Proverbs 3:1-2, it says “do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments.” In Matthew 4:4, it says Man should live “by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Situated in a capitalist society, are we living in a world lack of compassion? Apathy is a universal sin. Countless people are being indifferent to other’s sufferings or lose passion for life. God does have a high standard for human beings. God does not authorize us to judge anyone, including ourselves (Romans 14: 4, 12).

***

I was the one who expected that life would go smoothly without any troubles. I was the one who easily indulged in sorrow for what I lost. I was the one who failed to forgive others by burying my anger. I was not truly graceful for what I had. I was the one who hate frustrations and I got irritated or restless as there were bad surprises. Then, there was a turning point.

One day, as I looked back to review the most terrible moments in my life and I found that my life changed for the better because of unexpected episodes, especially some bad news. I came to understand God’s benevolence. I witnessed miracles many times which cannot be shared without sufficient scientific proofs. Nevertheless, I changed into another person. As life adversity came, I took the chance to reflect my priorities and desires to see whether I was beguiled by false beliefs or unduly desires, such as the obsession of forever love or love of money.

Wounded souls are too many to name. Countless People suffer from social anxiety, social phobia or any other forms of anxiety disorders. The causality between toxic social aura and rampant depressed individuals are assured.

False toxic beliefs are rampant. Are we surrounded by snobs in the global capitalist society? The mainstream public commonly devalues a person’s self-worth if he or she does not profit a lot from his or her career. Are we at the mercy of groundless pernicious biases? I would say, social prejudice is the root of worldwide tragedies.
